| Brain research shows us that movement and breath help to alleviate stress and anxiety. Our bodies are designed to move. Modern people lead mostly sedentary lives, and we almost have to relearn how to use movement to lead happy and healthy lives (parentingwithconnection.com). Our pre-schoolers have been busy learning and developing yoga poses and stories! Their favourite has been the yoga sequence developed by Childhood 101; I am strong, I am kind, I am brave, I am friendly and I am wise! They also really enjoyed developing their own poses to match the story book 'Dear Zoo' by Rod Campbell! This project has been so much fun and has provided us with many health benefits! Learning outcome 3: Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing |

Have you seen our wonder wall? It is the tie-dyed banner on the staff room door! The purpose of our wonder wall is for children to add their 'wonders' to be explored properly at a later time! Sometimes, children's questions turn into wonderful explorations. We value our children's wonders and want to extend their learning and understanding! Here is a project that evolved from a child's question, that being "what is tie-dye?" Method we used: Firstly, as a group we grabbed random sections of the material. Next, we placed a marble within the material, screwed the marble around and around Then, tied a rubber band very tightly at the base of the marble. We continued this method until our material looked like a funny alien monster with sausage-like antennas! Next, we placed the whole piece of material into a light yellow dye - we learnt that if we started with a lighter colour, we could always add a darker colour over the top! Then, we used tongs to dip different sections into the darker coloured dyes. By using primary colours only, we were able to create new colours when the primary colours mixed together. We learnt that these colours are called complimentary colours! Finally, the waiting game begun! We had to wait patiently over night for our creation to dry! The next morning we worked together to unravel our creation! This step was so exciting as we got to see the amazing patterns and colours that we had formed! Our individual tie-dye projectsWe had so much fun learning the processes involved in tie-dying that we have been busy creating our very own tie-dye projects! |
